Interoperability

Epic has introduced Share Everywhere, allowing for the sharing of electronic health records (EHRs) across all systems.

It’s been quite a long time since anyone except Stephen Lieber was been president and CEO of The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), but he’ll soon be handing over the reins after 17 years to Harold “Hal” Wolf III, an alum of Kaiser Permanente and the Chartis Group as well as a HIMSS board member.

Interactive patient systems (IPS) keep patient engaged and knowledgeable about their own care but have yet to reach their full potential. In a recent KLAS report, researchers examine current IPS vendors in their performance and how they plan to improve their systems.

While health IT and electronic medical records (EMRs) have reduced medication errors and improved care efficiency, incorrect implementation of such systems can lead to medication errors, misdiagnoses and treatment complications.

Individuals reading physician notes and explanations of care through a patient portal are often confused with many medical terms without the necessary explanations. Scientists have developed a virtual physician to explain test results in layman’s terms, while equipping users with charts and risk assessments of measurements.
