UnitedHealth Group and DexCom have partnered to develop a wearable glucose monitoring system, paired with mobile technology, to assist older Americans manage type 2 diabetes.
As the number of Americans with type 2 diabetes increases, so does interest in mobile technologies aimed at assisting patients take charge of their disease. The program introduced by UnitedHealth and DexCom begins by offering UnitedHealthcare’s Medicare Advantage plan enrollees a device with an accompanying fitness tracker. Users can then use the “Dexcom Mobile Continuous Glucose Monitoring System” to continually monitor their blood glucose levels.
“Continuous glucose monitoring can be a game changer for people enrolled in our Medicare Advantage plans, as the data can be translated into personalized information that can be acted upon in real-time,” Brian Thompson, CEO of UnitedHealthcare’s Medicare and retirement unit told Forbes.
